• Earth – Tobias – Life – Dr. Ismene Wyss
• Art can create ‘psychological safety’ - that rare inner state in which we can show ourselves without being judged. Although this concept refers primarily to team-building processes, it describes a central characteristic of Tobias Gutmann’s artistic work: with his drawings, he creates visual spaces for thought that oscillate between strength and inner insecurity, between visibility and withdrawal, between absolute intimacy and radical openness. […] ‘Hello, bye. Hi, bye. Hello, bye.’ What sounds like a casual murmur is condensed into a cycle of life: birth as hello, death as goodbye - and in between a constant coming and going.

• Tobias Gutmann’s portraits are not photorealistic, but freer, more abstract interpretations of the face in its own formal language. […] With the portrait, you become part of a conglomerate of images that belong together, you become part of the Face-o-mat project.

• Die Zeichnung ist »nur« das Zeugnis der Begegnung und sie sagt etwas aus über den Charakter und die Qualität der Begebenheit. Es kann sein, dass eine Stunde später ein ganz anderes Bild herauskäme. Was unter seiner Hand entsteht, ist immer eine Momentaufnahme.
